Bioengineering (BINI) Event held in Athlone

We are delighted to congratulate Genna Kearney and Alison Roche on their excellent presentations at the Bioengineering in Ireland (BINI) event held in Athlone this weekend, covering dermal and musculoskeletal repair.

Alison presented on the development and characterisation of a hydrogel-based system of extracts for herb extract loading and encapsulation, while Genna presented on the evaluation of our phosphoserine based synthetic biomaterial as a dual function bone adhesive for sustained antibiotic delivery and mechanical integrity in orthopaedic surgery.

We also extend huge congratulations to our partner research team in #DCU for their outstanding research contributions:

– Dr John Redmond, PhD presented on the in vitro assessment of osteoclast activity on a breakthrough technology – a phosphoserine modified calcium phosphate bone adhesive.
– Dr Ali Sahebalzamani, PhD presented on enhancing physiomechanical properties and pre osteoblast interaction in bone tissue engineering multifunctional crosslinked layer by layer scaffolds.
– Dr Tina Hashemi presented on advancing bioactive coatings to complex wedge shaped WE43 geometries for enhanced corrosion resistance in skeletal repair applications.

A special congratulations to PhD researcher Tasneem Elafi, who received the Best Early-Stage Research Award for her work on a phosphoserine modified calcium phosphate-based adhesive for bone stabilisation and repair.
